Mattress Delivery in Bali: What to Check Before It Arrives

A mattress is one of the largest single objects most people ever have delivered, and Bali is not built for large objects. Narrow gangs, gates designed for a motorbike, staircases that turn twice, villas down a lane a truck cannot enter.

Almost every delivery problem is preventable with five minutes of measuring beforehand. Here is what to check, and what happens if you skip it.

5 checks What separates a smooth delivery from a failed one
30 days Deadline to unpack a roll-packed mattress, or warranty is void
48 hrs Notice needed to change a scheduled delivery date

Measure These Five Things First

A Queen mattress is 160 × 200 cm and it does not fold. Every one of these needs to be wider than the mattress is thick, and ideally wider than that.

Before you order

  • Front gate and door width
  • Narrowest point of the corridor
  • Staircase width and turns
  • Bedroom door width
  • Lift dimensions, if any
  • Whether a truck can reach the entrance

The one that catches people most often is the staircase turn. A straight stair is rarely a problem. A stair that turns 90 degrees on a landing needs enough length on that landing to swing a 200 cm object round, and that is where deliveries stop.

The second is vehicle access. If your villa is down a gang that a delivery truck cannot enter, the mattress has to be carried the last stretch. That is usually workable, but it needs to be known in advance rather than discovered by two people standing in the sun.

"Nobody measures the landing. It is always the landing."

How Delivery Cost Is Worked Out

Delivery is calculated on the size and weight of what you ordered and where it is going. A Single to Denpasar and a Super King to a clifftop villa in Uluwatu are not the same job.

What can add to it: multiple deliveries for a large order, difficult access, upper floors without a lift, and re-delivery after a failed attempt. Those charges are avoidable, and they are avoidable at the quotation stage rather than on the day.

Tell whoever is quoting about access up front — which floor, whether there is a lift, how narrow the entrance is, whether a truck can reach it. It is not a question designed to catch you out; it is how the job gets planned properly.

What Happens on the Day

Someone has to be there. If nobody can receive the delivery, additional fees for storage and re-delivery generally apply. If your date no longer works, change it at least 48 hours ahead rather than on the morning.

You will sign for it. The delivery document confirms the delivery happened. Signing does not remove your right to report a defect you find later, but it does record that the items arrived.

Check the packaging before you sign. Count the packages and look for damage. If something is missing, damaged or wrong, write it on the delivery document at that moment. It is far easier to resolve than a phone call three days later.

Delivery teams do not assemble furniture. They bring the mattress to the room. Bed frame assembly is a separate job — worth knowing if you were expecting the bed to be made up when they leave.

If access looks risky, they will say so. If getting the mattress into your chosen room is likely to damage the product or your walls, the team will flag it and note it. You can tell them to proceed anyway, but that shifts responsibility for any damage onto you.

The 30-Day Rule Nobody Reads

If your mattress arrives roll-packed, it must be opened within 30 days of receipt. Leave it rolled longer than that and the warranty is void.

This is not administrative fussiness. Latex and foam compressed for months take a set they may never fully recover from, and a mattress that never returns to its intended thickness is not a mattress the manufacturer can stand behind.

It matters most for people buying ahead of a move or a renovation. If the room is not ready, the mattress still needs unpacking somewhere — flat, in a ventilated space, not standing on its side in a store room. Full conditions are on the warranty page.

Setting It Up Properly

Check the base before the mattress goes on it. Slat gaps under 10 cm, no broken slats, centre support in place on anything 180 cm or wider. A new mattress on a failing base fails early and the warranty will not cover it — what your mattress needs underneath covers this properly.

Give it air for a few hours. A new mattress may have a mild material smell. Leave it uncovered in a ventilated room and it fades. This is normal and not a defect.

Put the protector on before the first night. A stain generally cannot be returned, so this matters if you intend to use the trial period. More on that in how to actually test a mattress at home.

Keep the label and the invoice. Removing the product label voids the warranty entirely, and claims need proof of purchase. File it the day it arrives.

If You Are Furnishing a Whole Property

Multiple mattresses to multiple rooms is a different exercise. Access needs checking per room rather than per building, and a phased delivery is usually easier than everything at once — fewer rooms out of service, and less standing around.

Lead times depend on quantity and size mix, so build it into the schedule rather than assuming stock. The procurement side is covered in choosing mattresses for a hotel or resort.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if the mattress does not fit up my stairs?

Measure before ordering, particularly the landing on any turning staircase. If access is genuinely impossible, a smaller size or a different room is the realistic answer — mattresses do not fold.

How much does mattress delivery cost in Bali?

It depends on size, weight and destination, so confirm it at quotation. Difficult access, upper floors and re-delivery after a failed attempt can all add to it.

Can I change my delivery date?

Yes, with at least 48 hours notice. Later than that and additional charges may apply if the delivery has already been scheduled.

What if something arrives damaged?

Note it on the delivery document before signing and tell the team. Damaged or missing items are resolved far more easily when recorded at the point of delivery than reported afterwards.

Do I need to unpack it straight away?

Within 30 days at the latest if it is roll-packed, and sooner is better. Leaving it compressed beyond that voids the warranty, because the material may not fully recover its shape.

Five Minutes With a Tape Measure

Gate, corridor, stairs, bedroom door, lift. Write the numbers down and give them to whoever is quoting you.

Almost every failed mattress delivery traces back to a measurement nobody took, and the cost of that is a re-delivery fee plus another week without a bed.

And whatever you do, unpack it when it arrives.
