You shipped over a set of sheets you liked, or ordered a duvet cover from a brand back home, and it does not sit right. The fitted sheet pings off a corner in the night. The flat sheet is a hand's width short at the foot.
Nothing is faulty. Indonesian beds are built to a different set of dimensions, and the names — Queen, King, Double — are shared across systems that do not agree on what those names mean.
Indonesian bed sizes follow the European metric convention, so European and IKEA bedding fits. American, British and Australian bedding does not. The single biggest reason is length: beds here are 200 cm, while US beds are about 190 cm or 203 cm and UK beds are 190 cm.
Widths differ too, but by less. It is the length mismatch — and the depth of the mattress — that causes the fitted sheet to lose its grip.

Every width is 200 cm long. That consistency is the useful part — flat sheets and duvets only need to clear one length.

Australian sizes track the US more closely than the UK: an Australian Queen is about 153 × 203 cm.
Read across the rows and the pattern is clear. The European column matches almost exactly. The UK column is close on width but 10 cm short on length at the smaller sizes. The US column is off on both, and the names have drifted furthest — a US Queen is narrower than an Indonesian Queen but 3 cm longer, which is the worst possible combination for a fitted sheet.
The one genuinely clean match: a UK Super King and an Indonesian King are both 180 × 200 cm. If you are British and buying one size of bedding to ship over, that is the one that works.
Width and length get checked. Depth almost never does, and it is the more common cause of a sheet that will not stay on.
A fitted sheet has a pocket depth, and most bedding sold internationally assumes a mattress of around 25 to 30 cm. Latex mattresses are often sold in several heights — ours come in 20, 25 and 30 cm — and the difference between a 20 cm and a 30 cm mattress is 10 cm of extra fabric needed on all four sides.
Measure the mattress itself, not the frame. Frames add anywhere from nothing to 8 cm on each side, and a measurement taken across the frame will send you one size too large. If you are choosing a frame at the same time, what your mattress needs underneath covers how the two should relate.
Indonesian bedding is made for Indonesian beds. It is also generally cheaper than importing, and cotton and bamboo weaves sold here tend to suit the climate better than the heavier European sets people bring with them.
Buy one set first and check the fit before committing to three.
European metric sizing matches Indonesian sizing almost exactly. An EU Queen fitted sheet fits a 160 × 200 bed here without adjustment, and IKEA duvet covers in 140 × 200 or 200 × 200 work straight out of the packet.
Check the pocket depth even so — European sheets are often cut for 25 cm mattresses.
Custom fitted sheets to exact dimensions cost less here than a mid-range set in Europe, and you specify the pocket depth. For an unusual size — a 120 cm Single XL, or a 200 × 200 Super King — this is often the only way to get a proper fit at all.
Bring the mattress measurements written down, including height.
If you are buying the bed rather than the sheets, the sizing question becomes a room question. A Queen at 160 cm needs around 60 cm of clear floor on each side to walk past comfortably, which in practice means a room of at least 3 metres across before a King starts to make sense.
Two adults who move a lot in their sleep are better served by a King at 180 cm than by a Queen with a softer surface — space does more for undisturbed sleep than motion isolation does. 160 × 200 cm. That is wider than a US Queen (152 × 203 cm) and matches the European Queen exactly. A UK King, at 150 × 200 cm, is the closest British equivalent by length but 10 cm narrower.
Yes, in most cases. IKEA uses European metric sizing, which matches Indonesian sizing at 90, 140, 160 and 180 cm widths, all at 200 cm long. Check the pocket depth if your mattress is 30 cm rather than 25.
Because a US Queen is 152 × 203 cm and an Indonesian Queen is 160 × 200 cm. The sheet is 8 cm too narrow and 3 cm too long, so it stretches across the width and has slack at the ends — which is exactly the geometry that lets a corner release.
Measure the mattress, not the frame, and take all three numbers: width, length and height. Frames can add up to 8 cm per side, so measuring across the frame will point you at a size too large.
Usually, if the room allows it. Extra width reduces the chance of one partner's movement reaching the other, and it does so more reliably than any material property of the mattress. Leave roughly 60 cm of clear floor on each side.
